This was the first photo taken on Volcan Cacao. We took an overnight trip up to the station on Cacao--the next set of photos were all taken there.

Olive Ridley sea turtle egg

This egg was given to us by a Swiss couple who found a turtle nest that had been dug up by the packs of mongrels that roam the Ostional Turtle "Refuge." Nice refuge, huh? Basically, this egg would never hatch after losing the thermoregulation of the sand piled over it. So we dissected it.

Immediately after entering this private property (see fence photo on next page), this is what we saw! Did it fall? Was it killed? We actually saw a lone male monkey a few minutes later, and we heard A LOT of calling on the day we arrived--some upset in the troops?
