Yeah! We never actually stopped--this is just the view from the bus window, one of the many times that we passed this thing. You will see some other familiar images once we finally upload the Quito photos.

THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! Is there any way I could get a print?

From: Rachel And Bryn (rachel) @ 99.239.240.207 (Wed 26 Mar 08:58:22 2008)
Yay, Kayla! Actually, there is. I already told Kayla this, but if anyone is interested, the upper left hand of the screen offers options for printing through Shutterfly, etc. But first click on the picture till you can click no longer, so that you get to the biggest, highest-quality version.

Bryn here: this is a female, so it doesn't have the big horns.

This is the tarantula that was parasitized by a fungus. It's thought that the fungus will infiltrate the spider's (or insect's) brain and induce it to climb up as high as it can before the animal dies and the fungus sporulates. (Bryn's addendum: the fungus that causes the spider to climb is probably a different one. The whole climbing thing is speculative and he doesn't want to be associated with that kind of tomfoolery.)

I learned all about this type of fungus on a PBS special!! great photo!

I'm glad we gave you a chance to sharpen up your American drawl in time for your great US railway transect. It will be important for you to blend in, in order to reclaim the lost colonies for the Queen.

From: James @ 200.3.216.76 (Sun 4 May 14:02:41 2008)
hahaha! im well looking forward to the US bit. if i get my way, theres going to be so much silverware being passed around the place.

not the best pic of either of us, but it took a lot of tries with the camera (on tripod) precariously balanced on a small island/rock with rushing water all around. an accomplishment.
